About these terms

These Terms and Conditions apply to the use of lekkerbooks.co.za, the Lekker Books online bookstore, customer accounts, author accounts, author memberships, digital downloads, events and related services.

By accessing the website, creating an account, submitting an author application, purchasing a product or using a Lekker Books service, you agree to these terms.

If you do not agree with these terms, you should not use the affected service or complete a transaction.

Acceptable website use

You may use the website only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not damage the website, interfere with its operation or infringe the rights of another person.

You may not:

• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, another user’s account or restricted information.
• Upload malicious code, automated scraping tools or content intended to disrupt the platform.
• Misrepresent your identity or connection to an author, book, organisation or transaction.
• Copy or commercially exploit website content without permission.
• Use the website for unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory or abusive activity.

Customer and author accounts

You are responsible for providing accurate information and protecting your account password and login details.

You must notify Lekker Books promptly if you believe that your account has been accessed without permission.

Lekker Books may suspend or restrict an account when there is reasonable concern about fraud, unauthorised access, misuse of the platform, non-payment or a breach of these terms.

Author accounts may be linked only to the author profile approved by Lekker Books. An applicant may not claim or control another author’s profile.

Products, descriptions and prices

Lekker Books aims to display accurate book descriptions, covers, formats, prices, availability and publication information.

Product images are illustrative. Colours and dimensions may appear differently depending on the device, cover edition or supplied artwork.

Prices are displayed in South African rand unless stated otherwise. Delivery charges and other applicable amounts are displayed before an order is confirmed.

If a material pricing or product-information error is discovered before fulfilment, Lekker Books may contact the customer to confirm the corrected order or cancel and refund the affected item.

Orders and payment

Adding an item to the cart does not reserve it or create a completed sale.

An order is subject to payment authorisation, product availability, fraud checks and confirmation by Lekker Books.

Payment is processed through the payment methods shown at checkout. Lekker Books does not guarantee that every payment method will be available for every transaction.

A customer must provide accurate billing, delivery and contact information. Lekker Books is not responsible for delays caused by incomplete or incorrect customer details.

Lekker Books may decline or cancel an order where payment fails, the product is unavailable, the transaction appears fraudulent or fulfilment would be unlawful.

Printed books and delivery

Printed books are delivered using the options made available during checkout or confirmed after purchase.

Delivery times are estimates and may be affected by couriers, suppliers, public holidays, remote locations, stock availability or circumstances outside Lekker Books’ reasonable control.

The customer must inspect delivered goods and report damage, shortages or incorrect items promptly.

eBooks and digital products

A digital purchase gives the customer a limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the file for personal purposes.

Digital files may not be copied for redistribution, uploaded publicly, shared with unrelated persons, resold, sublicensed or used to create unauthorised derivative products.

The customer is responsible for using compatible software, devices and file-reading applications.

Download limits or expiry periods may apply where displayed on the product, account or order page.

Contact Lekker Books with the order number if a paid file is defective, incorrect or inaccessible.

Returns, cancellations and refunds

Returns and refunds are handled according to the nature of the product, the reason for the request, the condition of the goods and applicable South African consumer law.

Customers should not return a product before receiving return instructions from Lekker Books.

Digital products may be treated differently from physical goods because they can be accessed immediately.

Nothing in these terms is intended to remove or reduce a consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Author applications and memberships

Submission of an author application does not guarantee approval, publication, sales, marketing exposure or acceptance of every submitted book.

Lekker Books may verify the applicant’s identity, connection to the books and authority to submit the material.

Membership begins when the author is approved, linked to the correct profile and the required membership payment is successfully processed.

Membership plans, prices, billing periods and benefits are displayed on the Join as an Author page and may change subject to reasonable notice.

A membership may move through active, grace-period, suspended, cancelled or archived status according to the payment and membership rules.

During suspension, the public author profile and linked books may be hidden until the membership is renewed or reactivated.

Author content and responsibilities

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy, legality and ownership of the material they supply.

An author submitting text, images, covers, biographies, book files or promotional information confirms that they have the right to provide and publish that material.

Authors must not submit material that infringes copyright, privacy, confidentiality, personality rights, trademarks or other legal rights.

Lekker Books may edit supplied content for formatting, spelling, consistency, display or technical compatibility, provided the meaning is not materially misrepresented.

Lekker Books may remove or suspend content where there is a credible rights complaint, legal concern, security issue or breach of platform rules.

Copyright and intellectual property

Copyright in books, covers, author photographs and supplied content remains with the applicable author, publisher, illustrator, photographer or rights holder.

The Lekker Books name, website design, software, original platform content, branding and custom functionality may not be reproduced or commercially used without permission.

Authors grant Lekker Books permission to display, resize, format and promote supplied materials for operating and marketing the platform and the author’s listed books.

A copyright concern should be submitted through the Contact page with enough information to identify the material and the claimed rights.

Privacy and personal information

Lekker Books processes personal information for purposes such as managing accounts, fulfilling orders, processing payments, delivering downloads, supporting authors, communicating with users and meeting legal obligations.

Personal information is handled according to the Lekker Books Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection requirements.

Website and service availability

Lekker Books aims to keep the platform available and secure, but uninterrupted or error-free operation cannot be guaranteed.

Access may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, hosting issues, payment-provider outages, security incidents or circumstances outside reasonable control.

Features may be updated, replaced or withdrawn where reasonably necessary to maintain, secure or improve the service.

Liability

Lekker Books will not be liable for indirect or consequential loss to the extent that such liability may lawfully be excluded.

Lekker Books is not responsible for loss caused by customer error, incompatible devices, unauthorised account use, incorrect delivery details or third-party services outside its reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights where exclusion is prohibited by law.

Complaints and dispute resolution

A customer, author or visitor should first contact Lekker Books and provide clear details of the issue, relevant dates, order numbers and supporting information.

Lekker Books will attempt to review and resolve complaints reasonably and in good faith.

Changes to these terms

Lekker Books may update these terms when the platform, services, pricing, processes or legal requirements change.

The updated version will be published on this page with a revised effective date.

Material changes affecting an active membership may also be communicated directly where reasonably appropriate.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

Any dispute will be dealt with by a competent South African court or another lawful dispute-resolution process, subject to applicable consumer rights.
